The vmware virtual network editor can be of immense help for experts who want to tweak each and every component in their virtual network. Unfortunately it won’t get installed on your system when you install VMware player but fortunately copying it manually is not so difficult. The article Components of VMware Network contains instructions on copying vmnetcfg.exe. Read More…

VMware player is a boon for people who have a single computer but want to learn networking from the comfort of their couch. In this article I’ll brief about the components of the VMware network which will help you in designing your own virtual network.
Virtual Network Adapters
On the host machine (physical PC) where VMware player is installed two network adapters are created VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMNet1 (used for Host-Only networking) and VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for VMNet8 (used for NAT).

In this post I’ll be briefing about the various services used by vmware player. If any of these services are not running you’ll experience problems accessing certain features of VMware player.
- VMware Authorization Service:- This service is used by virtual machines when they are “powered on” to access information. If this service is not running you’ll receive the error “Error while powering on: The VMware Authorization Service is not running.”
- VMware DHCP Service:- This service acts as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server when NAT or Host-Only Networking configurations are used. It automatically assigns IP addresses to all the virtual machine adapters.
- VMware NAT Service:- When NAT (Network Address Translation) type of networking is selected this service is used.
- VMware USB Arbitration Service:- Plugging USB devices into the host computer shows a message box in the virtual machine. This service is used to connect USB devices to the Virtual Machine.
If any of these services are stopped you can bring up the run window [windows key] +R type “services.msc” (without quotes) and manually start these services.
